HD (Kurz für Hüftdysplasie) war noch vor wenigen Jahren eine ziemlich endgültige Diagnose mit meist kurz nach der Diagnose folgender Euthanasie des Tieres. Heute gibt es jedoch gute Behandlungsmöglichkeiten, welche dem Tier ein weiterhin aktives Leben ermöglichen.
Was ist Hüftdysplasie?

Das ist für den Hund extrem schmerzhaft und bis vor einigen Jahren gab es auch keine sinnvollen Behandlungsmöglichkeiten, so daß letztlich der schwere letzte Gang zum Einschläfern anstand.
Welche Behandlungsmöglichkeiten gibt es heute?
Jagdhunde sind insofern ein Sonderfall, daß sie im ständigen Einsatz stehen, und, sobald sie einmal eingejagt sind, für die Jagd leben. Man kann also rein theoretisch künstliche Hüften einsetzen und den Hund aus dem Jagdbetrieb nehmen, aber je nach Alter und Rasse des Hundes wird er mindestens so stark leiden, wie unter der damit behandelten HD.
Glücklicherweise ist auch im Bereich der Tiermedizin die Entwicklung nicht stehengeblieben und es gibt gerade für aktive Hunde eine Alternative durch Medikamente.
Zum einen sind da die aus Grünlippmuscheln gewonnenen Präparate, die mit den enthaltenen Glucosaminglykanen für mehr Gelenkschmiere und einen besseren Knorpelaufbau sorgen und damit die Arthrose verzögern oder sogar weitgehend verhindern.
Zum anderen gibt es mit Caprofen ein Medikament, welches in richtiger Dosierung knorpelaufbauend wirkt, die Entzündung hemmt und die Schmerzen unterdrückt und meist ohne Nebenwirkungen auch über längere Zeiträume gegeben werden kann.
Seit kurzem, gibt es auch noch eine operative Methode, die Denervierung, welche zwar die Wirkungen und Auswirkungen der HD nicht beseitigt, aber den Hund durch das Durchtrennen der sensorischen Nerven im Hüftbereich absolut schmerzfrei hält. Diese Methode kann aber nur der letzte Ausweg sein, da der Hund dadurch jegliches Gefühl im betroffenen Bereich verliert.
Zusammenfassend kann man sagen, daß man einem Hund mit HD heute erheblich länger ein artgerechtes und dem Tier gemäßes Leben gewährleisten kann, als das noch vor wenigen Jahren möglich war.
